The German police have been after Breckner for years, and they believe that he disposed of Madeleine’s body in the reservoir, which he visited. Currently, Breckner is serving a 7-year sentence for raping a 72-year-old woman in the same town where the girl disappeared.

The Portuguese agents have already cordoned off the area of interest and will start the search tomorrow, which will last at least two days. The location has been linked to Madeleine McCann after a truck driver testified that three days after Madeleine went missing on May 3, 2007, he saw a woman hand over a young girl to a man.
In February and March 2008, the first records were made in the reservoir, but they did not find anything interesting. In June 2014, another major search was conducted in Praia da Luz, using sniffer dogs trained to detect bodies and depth radars.
