Terrifying surveillance video. Smoke started to come out of the electric scooter, after a while it exploded

Electric scooter caught fire while charging the battery. After a few seconds, the vehicle exploded, setting the apartment on fire. The owner of the scooter escaped with his life, but was hospitalized after the apartment was filled with poisonous smoke.

The incident that took place in London shows how dangerous a battery failure on an electric scooter can be. This is another of many incidents of this type. This time, however, the whole event was recorded thanks to home surveillance cameras.

The scooter started to smoke. After a while there was fire

A video of the incident was released by the London Fire Brigade as a warning. As we can see in the recording, the owner of the scooter was charging the scooter at the entrance to the kitchen in his own apartment. Unexpectedly, the scooter’s platform breaks, and clouds of thick, white smoke begin to emerge from the inside. There are sparks and a small flame, but after a while the smoke almost stops. Unexpectedly, however, the battery explodes, scattering fragments of the vehicle around the apartment and leading to a dangerous fire.

There was very little time to react, because only 12 seconds passed from the appearance of the first signs that something disturbing was happening to the scooter. Jak, the owner of the vehicle, who was at home at the time, managed to put out the fire with a fire blanket and then get out of the apartment. He escaped with his life, but was hospitalized for several hours due to poisoning by toxic smoke from the scooter. The newspaper explains that the flame that came out of the battery had a temperature of more than a thousand degrees Celsius, which is why it instantly melted the aluminum casing of the vehicle.

The victim had bought the scooter just two weeks earlier on the British classifieds website Gumtree. He admits in an interview with the newspaper that he feels like he “deceived fate”, especially since no one else was hurt in the explosion. The London Fire Brigade, on the occasion of the incident, reminds that charging e-scooters at home can be dangerous and appeals to buy such vehicles from reputable sellers.
