Insider: Apple will release an affordable alternative reality helmet in 2025
Apple has scheduled an affordable AR/VR headset for 2025. This was stated in a blog on Medium by an authoritative insider Ming-Chi Ko.
The specialist found out that the corporation will begin production of two models – expensive and more affordable. Shipments of the new headsets, expected in the second quarter of 2025, should be 10 times larger than shipments of Apple’s first-generation alternate reality helmet, which is scheduled to be announced at WWDC in June.
Ming-Chi Ko also named the “main beneficiary of production” of the device – it will be Cowell. The Chinese corporation must organize the supply of components for both the first and second generation headset. The specialist revealed the timing of the release of the first generation helmet – according to him, the device will be sold before the end of 2023.
The cost of the “cheap” alternate reality helmet has not been disclosed. BGR journalists explained why Apple will be ready to introduce an inexpensive headset in two years. In their opinion, the high price of the original device is due to the increased cost of developing an AR / VR device from scratch.
Earlier, insiders said that an Apple helmet with support for VR and AR technologies will be priced at $ 4,000, or about 322 thousand rubles. This was explained by the high cost of the device components.
