This Wednesday, a police operation was activated in the Vatican City due to the incursion of a vehicle through the door of Santa Ana and even into the courtyard of San Damaso, in the Apostolic Palace.

The Vatican press office announced that the incident took place at 8:00 pm (local time) and that the suspect had been arrested.

“A car arrived at the Santa Ana gate of the Vatican, one of the entrances to the Vatican walls, and after ignoring the instructions of the soldiers of the Swiss Guard that it could not enter without the relevant authorizations, it left temporarily blocked the entrance and, after maneuvering, re-entered at high speed, forcing the two control gates of the Swiss Guards and the Gendarmerie Corps (Vatican Police),” a report to the media reported.

To stop the car, the person guarding the door fired at the front tires, but it hit the left front wing.

The 40-year-old man was in a serious state of psychophysical condition and had to close the door of the Mint, where the entrance to the Basilica of San Pedro, the Vatican Gardens and the Plaza de Santa Marta, where the residence of Pope Francis is located himself.

He is currently in a detention cell in the new building of the gendarmerie headquarters, at the disposal of the judicial authority, she added.
