A father in the United States is overjoyed to have his daughter back, who was kidnapped by her own mother in July 2017 after she lost custody.

The story, almost a police crab, was broadcast in a Netflix documentary series, called ‘Unsolved Mysteries’.

The man, Ryan Iserka, did not falter in his desire to reunite with the minor and Netflix’s work was key to finding his daughter.

Iserka stopped seeing the girl when she was 9 years old. Today, over time, he hugs and kisses the lady he became who is already 15 years old.

In all these cases, the suspicion of an enthusiastic merchant should be emphasized: it was he who took in his mind the face of the little girl and found that she resembled the young woman, for which he informed the authorities.

the mother kidnapped her

Ryan Iserka had full custody of his daughter Kayla Unbehaun at the time of the disappearance. The man, according to The Mirror, went looking for Kayla at her mother’s home in Wheaton, Illinois, on July 5, 2017.

He didn’t find them… the girl “had been kidnapped by her mother, Heather Unbehaun, age 40.”

When Iserka went to pick up her daughter on July 5, she learned that the couple had never returned from a camping trip, WBBM reported the following year.

The parent denounced the situation from then on, finding resonance in “the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children posting disappearance alerts online and releasing digital photos of what Kayla would look like now.”

The mystery came to Netflix

Last weekend, a store owner in Asheville, North Carolina, saw the young woman and recognized her. Yes, for this trader, the teen was the same as the Unsolved Mysteries episode on Netflix.

Wasting no time, the man “called the police and they arrested the mother, who had only visitation rights at the time of her abduction,” The Mirror reported on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

According to the EFE agency, Ryan Iserka’s daughter was “in North Carolina, about 600 miles (965 km) from her father’s home in Illinois.”

Through a post on social networks, Netflix confirmed that “a store owner in North Carolina recognized Kayla Unbehaun, who was abducted by her mother without custody in 2017,” and called police. “A viewer of ‘Unsolved Mysteries’ has closed a case!”, the platform said, referring to EFE on Wednesday, May 17.

what happened to the mother

The mother was held on $250,000 bail. They released her in the morning of Tuesday the 16th, CNN reports. The Kane County Attorney charged Heather Unbehaun with one count of child abduction.

“I want to thank all the followers of the Facebook page ‘Bring Kayla Home’, who have helped keep her story alive,” said the father, emphasizes the American news network.

According to the Spanish news agency, the teenager was handed over to her father, who thanked citizens via social networks for their participation and asked for privacy for the “new beginning” that the reunion will bring.
