A beta version of WhatsApp, the popular messaging app, is testing a new feature to edit sent messages across the web, iOS, and Android. After sending a message, users have exactly 15 minutes to edit it and that it is visible to the contact they are chatting with.

The text can be edited by long-pressing the message bubble and clicking the ‘Edit’ option. After correcting what you wanted to send, the message bubble appears labeled “Edited”‘, so that the interlocutor knows that this was not the original message.

For this reason, you need to empty the WhatsApp cache

However, you can only edit the text from the same device that sent the message. This is how WhatsApp hopes to avoid confusion or security breaches, since another person who has access to a user’s account on another device cannot edit the message without the user’s knowledge.

The option to edit messages is useful for users who make a mistake in writing the text, be it spelling, grammar, or regretting what they sent.

It is worth noting that if the person receiving the message does not have the update, they will receive the message as an “unsupported message”. This means that if a user receives an edited message, they will only be able to see it if they have the updated version of WhatsApp.

There is no date yet for the release of this feature in all its updates, but all devices are expected to be available soon.
