It was a joint operation by the army and police in the department of Chocó, on the border with Panama. Three members of the Clan del Golfo, the main criminal gang in Colombia, were killed.
The armed forces indicated that in the operation conducted in a rural area of the municipality of Medio Baudó, two members of the Clan del Golfo, also known as the Gaitanista Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AGC), were injured and another criminal was arrested.
“In this case, three illegal combatants were killed during military operations, two others were injured and one was captured. Rifles, machine guns, explosives and anti-personnel mines were seized and used against the community and our troops.” added the armed forces on Twitter.
According to this institution, “military operations are currently continuing in the rural area of Medio Baudó” to “continue to target the various criminal groups that have affected the civilian population and the regional economy”.
In the area where the crime was committed the guerrillas of the National Liberation Army (ELN) operate; the Clan del Golfo, the main criminal gang in the country, and other local groups.
