In January 2023, the government announced a tender for the purchase of almost 400,000. laptops for students. Computers should have a decent specification. In September this year, i.e. at the beginning of the 2023/2024 school year, the equipment is to be delivered to all children in the fourth grade of primary schools as non-refundable support. which shows that in addition to students, teachers will also benefit from it.
The government will co-finance the purchase of a laptop up to PLN 2,500 for teachers
Teachers cannot count on free laptops, but the government wants to enable them to buy them. Each teacher employed in a public primary school, regardless of the salary or financial situation, will receive a voucher worth PLN 2,500 to be used for the purchase of a laptop – describes “Fact”. In order to receive such a voucher, the teacher will have to apply to the school and then use it at points of sale of laptops, which will be indicated by the government and listed on the website of the Public Information Bulletin of the Minister of Digitization. The necessary code will be sent to the teacher by SMS and will have to be entered at the time of purchase. However, when the equipment is cheaper than the value of the voucher, you should not expect a refund of the rest of this amount. On the other hand, when the value of the laptop exceeds the amount of support from the government, you will have to pay the difference. “The proposed solution will equip both the teaching staff and the students themselves with tools that will allow them to develop their digital competences” – indicated in the justification quoted by “Fakt”.
For now, these are just the assumptions of the bill that has been submitted to the Sejm. These rules have not yet entered into force and may change before they are adopted. The planned solutions – described by “Fact” – provide that applications for vouchers can be submitted as early as in the next school year 2023/2024. Teachers will have plenty of time to buy a laptop. Vouchers will expire on December 31, 2025. Legislators also hedged against fraud. Vouchers cannot be returned or sold. What’s more, a laptop purchased under the program will also not be able to be resold for five years from the date of purchase.
