T-Mobile has been informing customers about the shutdown of its 3G network since 2021. and was a natural step in modernization. By freeing up part of the bandwidth occupied by the now archaic 3G, more space can be made to improve the capacity of the newer generation networks – 4G and the 5G network operating from 2020 on the Vistula River. The operator indicated in the messages that it did not give up the 2G network, because it could still be used for telephone calls, but it is best to connect to the Internet using at least LTE technology, which provides a much higher data transfer.
T-Mobile has turned off 3G. Some customers have problems
Unfortunately – as reported by , based on the operator’s data – T-Mobile is contacted by customers who have lost access to the network due to 3G being turned off. People who use very old mobile phones that do not support 4G or who have not replaced their SIM card for a new one (allowing to connect to 4G) have problems for many years. The company emphasizes that – despite a very extensive information campaign and the fact that card replacement was free of charge – some customers have not taken advantage of this opportunity so far.
“We have been informing our customers about the gradual phasing out of the 3G standard since 2021. Despite extensive and numerous campaigns encouraging free replacement of SIM cards, we still receive reports from customers who use old SIM cards or phones that do not allow the use of LTE / 5G and VoLTE,” T-Mobile wrote in a comment to the station. The operator added that it helps customers who have problems connecting to the network to solve the problem as soon as possible. The company also emphasized that it constantly monitors the signal quality in various parts of the country and responds to customer requests, strengthening the coverage of other networks.
T-Mobile is not the only operator who decided to give up 3G. A similar decision was made by Orange, but in this case the process will start only in September 2023 and will last until the end of 2025. In the first place, residents of the vicinity of Piła and Sieradz will be cut off from 3G on a pilot basis. Other operators are currently delaying making a similar move. As TVN24 reminds, Plus declared in March this year that it does not plan to phase out 3G for the time being, and in the case of Play such a decision has not yet been made.
