The startup Fakespot was founded in 2016 by Saoud Khalifah, but until now most of us have not heard about it. Soon, however, the company may get loud, because – along with the technology it has developed – . The manufacturer of one of the world’s most popular browsers wants to implement a function that will help us in everyday online shopping.
Mozilla Firefox will recognize and block fake reviews
Fakespot deals with tracking fake reviews on the web about products that appear on popular shopping platforms. Dishonest producers or sellers can flood the web with their own opinions on a massive scale. They not only mislead consumers and inflate the average rating of the product, but also work to the disadvantage of honest sellers who do not resort to lies. What’s worse, fake reviews don’t even have to be written by humans nowadays, because artificial intelligence does it for them. It is precisely such comments generated by chatbots that the tool created by Fakespot is able to find.
How does Fakespot work? It is also available for Google Chrome users
As the company explains, Fakespot uses advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning models to recognize characteristic patterns and similarities appearing in many different opinions on the web. This is a signal for the tool that the comments were written by one person or artificial intelligence and may be untrue. Mozilla declares that it will continue to develop the technology in the near future, and Fakespot will still be available to users of Google Chrome (as a browser plug-in) as well as Android and iOS smartphones. In the unspecified future, however, Mozilla intends to integrate the acquired tool with the Firefox browser and offer new features that will only appear on Firefox. What? The company has not disclosed this yet.
