Amazonian chiefs held a special ceremony after landing in London with a figurehead representing rainforest tribes to bestow a headdress made up of locally sourced feathers on the monarch’s head.

Uyunkar Domingo Peas presided over the ceremony after disembarking from Ecuador’s capital and acknowledging the king’s long-standing campaign against deforestation.
The event has taken pride of place in Carlos’ calendar and was scheduled for Thursday, May 4 at 2 p.m., two days before the coronation on Saturday, May 6.

Domingo Peas revealed the plans during an interview with British media, stating that the crown is a “sign of respect” for the Achuar people. Talking to Tom Newton Dunn about talkTVsaid: “It is an honor to award it to someone who is an authority, who, in this case King Carlos, has been very committed to the protection of biodiversity, to the protection of nature.”
“This is a symbol we give to King Carlos to display as a symbol of our growing alliance with His Majesty and also with other world leaders, people who are interested in wholeheartedly joining indigenous peoples to protect nature .”
The king has withdrawn from these campaigns since he ascended the throne in September 2022, but he was a staunch opponent of deforestation when he was Prince of Wales. This is according to a report in the British newspaper Emphaticallyhis warnings about rainforest destruction clashed with government positions in Brazil and Ecuador.

Who is Uyunkar Domingo Peas, leader of Achuar
Uyunkar Domingo Peas Nampichkai is a longtime leader of the Achuar Nation of the Ecuadorian Amazon and serves the country’s indigenous movement. Domingo is currently the coordinator of the Amazon Sacred Basins Initiative Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of the Ecuadorian Amazon (Confeenies).

The Confeniae represents 11 indigenous nationalities from the Ecuadorian Amazon. Domingo served as communications director for the Achuar Indigenous Nation of Ecuador (NAE) from 2000 to 2003.
He is also the founder of the Sharamentsa Achuar Indigenous Community Tourism Project and was Vice President of CONFENIAE from 1993 to 1996. Domingo also served as vice president and later president of CODENPE (Council of Nationalities and Peoples of Ecuador) and as a representative of the German Indio-HILFE Foundation.
