The Colombian Navy announced they were conducting maritime surveillance operations in the Pacific Ocean, where they intercepted several Ecuadorian-flagged vessels near the general area of the Malpelo National Natural Park.
According to a statement, there were a total of five boats engaged in illegal fishing activities because they did not have the respective permits. The first ship arrested was called Benyi, which was crewed by two Ecuadorians and a Colombian. There they found 720 kilograms of goldfish.

The second ship was named Katiuska and found three Ecuadorian citizens and 780 kilograms of dorado. While in the boats “Jehovah is my Shepherd”, “Catalina” and “Nicolás Luis Alejandro”, which were crewed by four Ecuadorians, 326 kilograms of squid and goldfish were seized.

Two of the ships diverted to the port of Buenaventura, the rest to the district of San Andrés de Tumaco.
The authorities indicated after the relevant inspection that 1,500 kilos were in poor condition, so they were returned to the sea.
So far this year, Colombia has seized 5,774 kilograms of illegal fishing.
