Police arrested a man on Tuesday approached Buckingham Palace throwing what appeared to be rifle cartridges on the floorsaid London’s Metropolitan Police.

The arrest, carried out at 7pm local time (6pm GMT), comes just days after the king’s coronation. Charles IIIwhich will be attended by royalty and world leaders.

“The place was cordoned off after the man was found in possession of a suspicious bag,” police added.

“Specialists who came to the scene conducted a controlled explosion of the bag as a precaution, after evaluation”, he indicated.

Chief of Police Joseph McDonald said police “immediately worked to arrest the man, who is under police control”.

“There are no reports of gunfire or injuries between the police and the public,” he added.

“Police are still at the scene and are investigating,” he said.

Soon after, surrounding streets reopened and most of the police cordons were lifted.

“There is no information about shots or injuries to officers or civilians,” the chief inspector said, adding that police are continuing their investigation.
