The National Center of Retirees and Pensioners of Peru (CENAJUPE) pointed out that the majority of parliamentarians of the Congress of the Republic are promoting the migration of affiliates to the Private Pension System (SPP) for which they called for the strengthening of the National Pension System (SNP). They added that the pension system reform should have a participatory approach, without excluding workers and pensioners.

“CENAJUPE condemns the efforts of the parliamentary majority prone to its commitments to the interests of those who manage the private pension funds (AFPs), promoting migration to the Private Pension System (SPP) which, in addition, They are failing in other countries. Consequently, We call to strengthen the National Pension System (SNP) based on the intergenerational solidarity chain; just as we warn of our rejection of any attempt to increase the retirement age,” they specified.

The Executive and the Legislature were also requested to assume their responsibility with Peruvian pensioners since the current conditions push them to border on begging, with “tipped pensions”. And they recalled that the comprehensive reform of the pension system must be built with participatory criteria, without excluding workers and pensioners, creating a new institutional framework with the contribution of workers, employers and the State, “with tripartite governance and budgetary, economic and financial autonomy”, they detailed.

The union asked the General Confederation of Workers of Peru (CGTP) and the National Coordinator of Pensioners of Peru (CONAPEP) to prepare a “National Day of Struggle” in defense of pension rights and the human rights of the elderly.
