The Ministry of Digitization by decision of Mateusz Morawiecki and the employees of the ministry (including the then minister, Marek Zagórski) were included in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. Now history has come full circle, and the government will again transfer people from the Chancellery of the Prime Minister to the new ministry.
The Ministry of Digitization is back. Regulation on Morawiecki’s desk
On Tuesday, the regulation on restoring the digitization ministry to be signed by the Prime Minister, and the changes are to enter into force on May 1. The government’s decision in this matter boasted on Twitter, among others. Janusz Cieszyński, commenting on it with a short description “Guess who’s back”. The tweet then retweeted the profile Digitization of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.
The ranks of the new ministry are to be strengthened by people from the Digitization of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, i.e. the structure operating within Mateusz Morawiecki’s law firm, responsible so far for digitization and computerization. As we read in the regulation, “Employees of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister handling the matters of the IT department are included in the Ministry of Digitization”. The ministry, separate from the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, will be headed by Janusz Cieszyński, who – by decision of Andrzej Duda – was appointed as the Minister of Digitization on April 6 (despite the lack of a proper ministry at that time). From June 2021, Cieszyński held the position of Secretary of State at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and Government Plenipotentiary for Digitization. Earlier (in the years 2018-2020) he was the undersecretary of state in the Ministry of Health, and – after resigning from this function – in the second half of 2020 he became briefly vice-president of Chełm.
Janusz Cieszyński “became famous” in the media, especially in connection with the purchase of ventilators during the COVID-19 pandemic. The politician signed a contract for the supply of life-saving equipment with the arms dealer’s E&K company from Lublin. However, the company had problems with fully fulfilling the obligation and returning the money. Stefan Krajewski from PSL quickly commented on the decision to separate the digitization ministry, referring to the ventilator scandal. “Some app to find respirators will be useful. Maybe the new ministry will create it” – he wrote.
