With more than a hundred years on the market, the Italian brand has not stopped reinventing itself. After revolutionizing segments such as trucks, by the SUP (Sport Utility Pickups) and innovation in passenger cars, Fiat presents its first SUV coupe: the Fiat Fastback. The regional launch of this new vehicle, developed by the team of the Stellantis Design Center South America, took place in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

The aim is to transform the Fiat brand from economical and purely functional to an emotional brand, sought after and appreciated by customers. That is the DNA that sets us apart from the competition

Marco Tamolonis, Fiat brand manager.

“It is the best representative of Fiat’s repositioning in the market and reaches a new level in the perception of the value of our brand. The model is on the pulse of the SUV segment, which is so important and growing every day worldwide,” said Fernando Varela, vice president of Fiat Andean and Latin American Commercial Operations, who emphasized that the Fastback brings together the best of design, performance, safety and technology on the market at a level only found in premium segments.

The gearbox of the car also needs overhaul and maintenance.

He recalled that it all started with the prototype presented at the 2018 Sao Paulo Auto Show in Brazil, where it was praised worldwide for its design that brought perfect harmony between the designs of an SUV and a coupe. The concept came to life and served as inspiration for the development of the Fastback, from the name to the striking and innovative lines.

Marco Tamolonis, Fiat Brand Manager, explained that the new model comes not only to expand the offering in the SUV segment, which is growing so strongly worldwide, but also to take the brand to the next level. “We are faced with the challenge of going out to capture new customers with an offering that we didn’t have until now. We believe that the Fiat Fastback will become the best-selling SUV coupe model regionally. It is an innovative, disruptive design, which may have been exclusive to premium brands until today. Meets the customer’s need for a versatile, roomy vehicle with a larger trunk”.

It has four airbags and driving assistance, such as autonomous emergency braking, active lane monitoring and automatic high beam switch. additional brake parking electronics and a multimedia center, incorporating the native GPS navigator and wireless charger. “We have also incorporated the air repeater for the rear seats with a USB output, much appreciated by those who need to charge their phones. And for the top versions, a 7-inch digital dashboard that is customizable and adaptable to the information the customer needs while driving,” added Tamolonis.

Is it useful to wash the car in times of rain?

Drive, Audaz, Impetus and Limited are the four versions of the new vehiclewhich will soon arrive in Ecuador and seven other Latin American countries: Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.

The entire Fastback line is 100% turbocharged. With two engine options, in the Drive, Audace and Impetus versions, it is equipped with the Turbo 200 with an output of 120 hp and a torque of 200 Nm. Thanks to the engine, the model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.2 seconds. Fuel consumption is also acceptable with a 1.0 turbo engine, up to 14.6 km/l on the highway.

For those looking for even more daring performance, there is the 270 Turbo engine variant with an output of 175 hp and 270 Nm of torque in the Limited version. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.2 seconds.

“They are technological engines, the fact that the displacement is reduced does not mean that the engine performs less, but rather that it performs better and has better fuel economy. Because it is turbocharged, it is a more technological, economical and efficient engine,” emphasized the Fiat Brand Manager.

Three driving modes

Normal (focus on lower consumption and more comfort), manually (more versatility) and sport (faster response). To opt for the latter, all you have to do is press a button on the steering wheel and then the entire car setup is changed with increased throttle sensitivity, more twitchy gear change mapping, a firmer steering mode, and the activation of the dynamic torque vector (DTV).

To drive these superior engines, the transmission is also up to the task. For this reason, the Fastback comes with a simulated 7-speed CVT gearbox in the Turbo 200 versions and a 6-speed automatic transmission mated to the Turbo 270.
