Canalys: Samsung led the smartphone market in the first quarter of the year
Samsung was the leader of the global smartphone market in the first quarter of 2023. This is reported in the current report of Canalys.
The South Korean smartphone maker received a 22 percent stake. In second place was Apple, which has a share of 21 percent. Xiaomi held onto third place with an 11 percent share. Analysts noted that the fall in the global market is observed for the fifth quarter in a row, year on year sales fell by 12 percent.
The decline in interest in the new flagships of Apple was called the main reason for Samsung’s leadership. Also, experts noted that Xiaomi sales have fallen markedly, but the Chinese company managed to stay on the third position in the ranking.
According to Canalys analyst Sanyam Chaurasia, the market decline was expected due to high inflation rates. At the same time, macroeconomic conditions improved slightly, and companies began to invest more in promotions and other marketing activities. According to the expert, the first signs of recovery in the industry are expected in the second quarter of 2023.
Earlier it became known that Samsung led the global smartphone market in February, overtaking Apple. The high sales of the Korean corporation were associated with the release of the Galaxy S23 line of smartphones.
