A feature released last year in Twitter authorized users of the social network post tweets to a certain circle of followers. However, due to a flaw in the platform, the tweets have been made public, which contradicts the original purpose.

This is the latest controversy in the social network, owned by Elon Musk, as the tycoon made several changes that did not please the “tweeters”. But this problem appears to be more technical as it no longer protects the Circles’ privacy.

For this reason, many users have complained on Twitter and even experimented with their own profiles to see how many people outside their circle could see their tweets. Something they also report is that private messages appear in the “For you” tab, which shows all public and algorithm-recommended tweets.

Those who have already noticed the outage advised other users not to post sensitive or private messages in their circles as they would likely become public to someone else as well.

Twitter Support, the account that reports bugs and acts as technical support for Twitter, has been inactive since early March. Elon Musk, who usually communicates changes to the social network on his own profile, has also not commented on the privacy issue plaguing users of the platform.
