The first virtual presenter made her debut on the Kuwait news service Kuwait News. It has a woman’s face, but it was generated by artificial intelligence. The publisher wants Fedha to replace real presenters in the future.

The dynamic development of artificial intelligence in recent months means that the possibilities of AI are beginning to be used in other areas of life. This is both an opportunity and a threat, especially for employees in industries where artificial intelligence will be able to prove itself well in the future. Kuwaiti TV used artificial intelligence in the studio

The Kuwait News website, owned by the Kuwait television network Kuwait Times, tested artificial intelligence in the role of a TV presenter last weekend. On the Twitter account of the portal there was a short entry of the digital presenter Fedha, whose image was generated by artificial intelligence. Fedha is blonde, light-eyed, bare-haired and speaks Arabic. This digital woman appearance – as representatives of Kuwait News explain – was created to “reflect the diverse society” of Kuwait. – I am Fedha, the first presenter in Kuwait who works with artificial intelligence on Kuwait News. What news do you like? We will listen to your opinion,” Fedha said in a speech translated into English by the British. The first appearance of the AI-generated presenter caused a wave of comments on Arab social media.

Abdullah Boftain, deputy editor-in-chief of the Kuwait Times and Kuwait News, admitted that the debut entry of the virtual presenter was only a test of the potential of artificial intelligence. Boftain explains that once the technology is perfected, Fedha is set to become a full-time presenter at Kuwait News. At the beginning of her television career, she will present world news on the site’s Twitter feed. However, before that happens, the station’s owners want to teach the digital character Kuwaiti Arabic accent, which she has not managed to master so far.
