The upcoming Apple smartphone will receive a USB-C connector instead of Lightning. This is reported by iDrop News, citing sources.
Sources predicted a new port in the iPhone 14. Insiders said that USB-C will be one of the main features of future Apple devices, which will be released in the fall of 2022.
The experts listed the reasons why Apple decided to implement USB-C. The main one was called the new video format ProRes, which allows you to shoot high-quality videos for professional content creators. So, a minute of such a video weighs about six gigabytes, and it is extremely difficult to transfer it through the Lightning port, which is based on the outdated USB 2.0 technology. So, to transmit two hours of ProRes video over the wire, you need to wait almost four hours.
Also, insiders recalled the problems that Apple may face if it does not transfer its devices to USB-C. “Both the Biden-Harris administration and the European Union insist on this,” the authors noted. The final reason for the transition, the authors called concern for the environment. According to them, if the universal port was introduced, Apple could abandon the production of Lightning wires.
Earlier, a Swiss enthusiast who installed a USB-C port in an iPhone sold the device at auction. The Apple smartphone was sold for 86 thousand dollars, or over six million rubles.
