Six rockets have been fired at Syria this Sunday, the Israeli army announced this Sunday, following the recent launch of rockets from Syria south of the Golan Heights, annexed by Israel, in a spiral of violence in the Middle East.

“The artillery is currently attacking the area of Syria from which rockets were fired into Israeli territory,” the military said in a brief statement, which had previously reported that warning sirens had sounded in several locations.

Israel strengthens with army before tension escalates

The operation was launched “in response” to the gunfire, the army said, later saying it had also used a drone to target the aircraft from which the missiles were fired.

At least one missile was intercepted by the Israeli anti-aircraft system and two fell on wasteland in the Golan, the military said.

Israel this Saturday reported the launch of three missiles from Syria against its territory, an attack that occurred on the same day the Hebrew state reinforced its security forces.

These releases, whose authorship is currently unknown, represent the latest episode in the current spiral of violence in the Middle East.

One of the missiles “fell on wasteland south of the Golan Heights,” an area annexed by Israel in 1967, the military statement said, which did not provide further details.
