New Apple Maps from Friday are officially available to most users from Poland and several other European countries (Austria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovenia). For the rest, they should probably appear in the coming hours. Apple boasts that the application has been completely refreshed and now offers much better, more accurate and easier to use navigation.
Apple Maps in a new version in Poland. There is a Look Around feature
Apple boasts that the new Maps is primarily a refreshed look that contains much more city details. First of all, there was a more accurate mapping of roads and buildings, parks, airports and shopping centers. This is also to facilitate quick recognition of the places the user is looking for on the map. The application also gained a three-dimensional view of Polish cities.
Apple also took care of adding characteristic 3D icons depicting the most famous and valued city buildings, such as the Wiener Riesenrad Ferris wheel in Vienna or the Buda Castle in Budapest. The voice messages appearing while driving with the navigation turned on have also been changed so that they are more understandable. Now instead of “in 100 meters turn left” we will hear “turn left at the next intersection”. The app is also supposed to make it clearer to the driver which lane he should continue driving in.
Polish users of Apple Maps also officially receive the Look Around function, i.e. the equivalent of Street View in Google Maps. Cars equipped with cameras from the manufacturer of iPhones have been seen on the streets of Polish cities in recent months, and now the function officially goes to Maps. Apple is also adding route guidance shown in augmented reality (i.e. overlaid on the live view from the phone camera), but for now the function is to be available only in Vienna.
