Apple Declares iPhone X Obsolete

Insider: iPhone X, 8 and 8 Plus will not receive iOS 17 update

It became known which Apple smartphones and tablets will receive an update to the new version of the operating system. It is reported by MacRumors.

The journalists referred to an insider who said that iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 will not be compatible with smartphones and tablets based on the A11 Bionic chip or an older processor. Thus, the update will not receive the iPhone X, iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, as well as the fifth generation iPad and the first generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro – Apple recognizes these gadgets as obsolete.

Specifically, iOS 17 will be available on the iPhone Xs and Xs Max, as well as newer models. In the case of iPadOS 17, the only exceptions will be the sixth and seventh generation iPad tablets with the A10 Fusion chip, as well as the second generation 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro with the A10X Fusion chip.

According to journalists, Apple decided not to update old smartphones and tablets, including because devices have become susceptible to various vulnerabilities. For devices based on processors A5 to A11, the iOS installer works in read-only format.

Earlier it became known that Apple will hold the WWDC 2023 event with the announcement of new operating systems from June 5 to 9. It is expected that the presentation will present iOS 17, iPadOS 17 and other OS updates.
