Although it had been announced since 2021, Elon Musk’s SpaceX company confirmed this Wednesday on its social networks that starlink will offer broadband and high-speed internet in Ecuador starting this weekend.
Telecommunications Minister Vianna Maino explained that under her auspices, the ministry coordinated the activation of the system with Starlink representatives, which will be the first to be implemented in the Galapagos Islands once all regulatory requirements are met. From April 1, 2023, the Starlink service will be available to the residents of the archipelago, as well as to the 250,000 tourists visiting the Insular region.

Starlink has approximately 3,558 active satellites in low Earth orbit, making it possible to upload and send the signal back almost instantaneously to provide high-speed, low-latency internet. This scheme makes it easy to provide internet everywhere, making it ideal for covering remote areas, the ministry said in a statement.
We welcome another giant of satellite connectivity like Starlink @SpaceX.
We took the necessary actions that enabled a quick installation. Areas in the mainland and insular region that have never been connected before may be able to access this service. pic.twitter.com/T5oZSpDNNE

It is expected to open coverage in more provinces of Ecuador as the company expands its satellite operations. Until 2022, Musk’s company had 3,500 satellites in orbit to provide internet services. His plans are to reach 30,000 satellites.

The company has explained that while most satellite Internet services come from satellites orbiting the Earth at about 35,000 kilometers away, the Starlink swarm is much closer, at about 550 kilometers away, making it it makes it possible to reduce the time it takes for data to travel back and forth between the user and the satellite.
According to the company, the service supports online streaming and gaming, video calls and is mainly intended for remote regions that are still cannot access the connectionsuch as rural areas.
On its website, Starlink offers a 30-day trial in what the company considers a fair deal either way. Starlink can adjust the terms and prices if necessary and customers can cancel at any time and for any reason.
That’s why they insist on choosing them: “Try a Starlink service for 30 days and, if you’re not satisfied, return the hardware for a full refund.”
