Probe. Poles want to limit children’s access to social media

Poles believe that recordings of brutal beatings of young people, posted on the Internet, incite a wave of violence. They also want to lower the age at which children and teenagers could set up profiles in social media, according to a survey commissioned by Wirtualna Polska. The background for the study was recent tragic events in Zamo¶cie or Pruszków.

The study for Wirtualna Polska at the Ariadna National Research Panel was conducted on March 17-20, 2023, using the CAWI method, on a representative group of 1,045 adult Poles.

The study asked about the phenomenon of youth violence. As much as 65 percent of respondents assessed that the number of acts of violence and aggression among Polish youth has increased. 17 percent thought it hadn’t changed. 4 percent declared that they thought it had decreased.

The respondents were also asked whether posting recordings of beating or tormenting peers contributes to the increase in the number of acts of violence and aggression among young people. Again, 65% answered yes. surveyed, including 32 percent answered “definitely yes”. 17 percent answered no, and 18 percent was unable to answer.

Restrictions on TikTok, Instagram, Facebook?

What solution could help reduce violence? The authors of the study used the recent unprecedented decisions of the French National Assembly in Europe. It passed a law according to which From 13 to 15 years of age – the consent of the parents will be necessary.

Therefore, the research asks the question:

The study for Wirtualna Polska also asks whether the above-mentioned regulations could contribute to a decrease in the number of acts of violence and aggression among young people. 58 percent of respondents say yes (23% of answers “definitely yes”). 21% are of the opposite opinion, the same number of people said that they had no opinion on this subject.
