The Korean brand, convinced that Galapagos is a national pride, cataloged as the second largest marine reserve in the world and declared a World Heritage Site, has restored the ports of the Itabaca Channel, both on the Baltra side and in Santa Cruz, which are important spaces that deserve great protection and care, as they receive more than 220,000 visitors every year.

Kia has allocated more than $800,000 for infrastructure, green area modifications, image enhancement, presentation of the parks, electric vehicle charging stations, implementation of solar panels to provide electricity and ongoing maintenance, among other changes these facilities will undergo.

The Kia Parks charging stations work on solar energy.

It is worth noting that all these improvements were made with a sustainable approach, generating electricity through a system of solar panels for the Itabaca Canal, on the Santa Cruz side, which had no electricity. Similarly, fast chargers for electric cars have been installed and Kia Parks has built rest areas for domestic and foreign visitors that inspire an unforgettable family moment.

During his presentation, representatives from Kia in Ecuador and the office of the mayor of Santa Cruz, among others, were given a tour of the brand new facilities. A lunch was then held where short speeches were made and the fraternal ties between the Korean brand, the private company and the local authorities were strengthened.

For Kia, what we’ve done is very special and that they see what a brand can do to benefit the community. We want to be a brand connected to nature with sustainability and we have taken the first step

Ramiro Cornejo, general manager of Kia Ecuador.

Fast chargers for electric cars have been installed and Kia Parks has built rest areas for domestic and foreign visitors.

This is a very important day for me, it is an unforgettable day, everything we have seen today is for the good of the community, and we must continue to carry out projects like this for the next generations.

Steve Lee, president of Kia in Central and South America.

Likewise, Juan Pablo Eljuri, vice president of the board of directors, supplemented the interventions by highlighting that the idea of Kia Parks came about six months ago. “We wanted to make a mark and after a lot of thinking we decided to start in the Galapagos and that’s how it went. I believe we will continue to do more for this country and for the world. We believe it is useless to dream if you cannot see it. Today we are living a dream,” he emphasized.

Galapagos is a province that has no renewable energy, everything was combustion and that’s where the idea started. This is how Kia came up with its project to take advantage of solar energy that is free. By the year 2025, all vehicles entering the Galapagos are expected to be electric

Ángel Yánez, Mayor of Santa Cruz.

At the end of the event, Mayor Ángel Yánez handed over the keys to the city to Steve Lee, president of Kia in Central and South America.
