Answers, to try to understand their daughter’s death, await Baldo Basaldua and Alejandra Ruiz Zarco. The parent says she just spoke to Ana Fernanda on March 8, 2023 and noticed her sadly.

“She told me she wanted to see me, she wanted to hug me, and she wanted me to hug her a lot, like when she was little,” she told Telemundo News.

Ana Fernanda Basaldua Ruiz was a soldier, combat engineer, 20 years old. On Monday, March 13, she was found lifeless in the facilities of the Fort Hood military base, Texas, United States, where she had served for the past 15 months.

The young woman had informed her mother that she was suffering sexual harassment. The soldier’s corpse was “in a maintenance room” of the aforementioned base. Preliminary, the death was said to have been due to a case of suicide.

Ana Fernanda’s father, Baldo Basaldua, said he last spoke to his daughter on Saturday, 11 of this month.

Basaldua, who lives in California, said the young woman did not answer messages on Sunday and tried to contact her again on Monday.

“I sent him messages and they stopped reaching him, the delivered one stopped appearing and I went looking for his location (satellite) and it looked like he was in a park in the base and that was it, I just put sent him a message that whoever would die would frighten me, because I knew nothing about her,” he recalled.

That Monday morning, around 11am, some soldiers went to the restaurant where he works to inform him of the unfortunate news.

A 2020 assassination at the same military base

The death of Ana Fernanda reminded of what happened to Vanessa Guillén, 20 years old.

Guillén was also a soldier and his body was found at the same military base at Fort Hood.

“She was beaten to death by a colleague who removed and dismembered her body before burying her in a remote location.

Aaron Robinson, 20, committed suicide as police prepared to question him after Guillén’s human remains turned up, nearly two months after his disappearance,” reported El Universal.

A woman, Cecily Aguilar, Robinson’s girlfriend, Telemundo recalled, was arrested on charges of aiding in the disposal of Guillén’s body.
