On Sunday, Mateusz Morawiecki and Mariusz Błaszczak met with soldiers at the training ground in Wesoła in connection with the “Train with NATO” campaign and the 24th anniversary of Poland’s accession to the North Atlantic Alliance.
Morawiecki: We must have an army so strong that Poland has sufficient deterrent power
The Prime Minister said that well-trained citizens increase the country’s defense capabilities. – Switzerland is not so easy to attack – all the enemies of this country knew it – not only because it is a mountainous country, but also because in Switzerland every citizen undergoes military training, training in the use of weapons. (…) We also encourage all citizens to participate in firearms training, to visit the shooting range and learn to shoot – he noted.
– We must have an army so strong that it does not have to defend itself, so that Poland has sufficient deterrent power – he said and added that the government takes care of the country’s defense situation, and strong public finances are needed to build a strong army. – It is from the Polish budget that we finance the Polish army today, we finance foreign purchases, we finance the recapitalization of our Polish armaments plants throughout Poland. And we will strengthen the Polish army, because we are convinced of such a strategy – he said.
Mateusz Morawiecki also spoke about the importance of Poland for the security of other countries. He said that, among other things, thanks to the purchase of modern armaments and the strengthening of the Polish army, Poland benefits from NATO’s security guarantees, but also gives security to others. – All this together creates a landscape of much stronger security for the entire NATO, the entire eastern flank of NATO, including Poland – he added.
Błaszczak: So that Putin’s resurgent empire does not dare to attack Poland
The Minister of National Defense Mariusz Błaszczak announced that almost 500 people signed up for the Sunday training under “Train with NATO”. He reminded that it was a one-day action, but a record one in terms of the number of applications. He also announced the next edition in the spring.
– Over 11,000 people benefited from our training in the autumn and winter editions. This training is focused on the basic principles of weapon handling, first aid, survival – for example, starting a fire or water treatment. There is also an opportunity to learn basic hand-to-hand combat skills, the basics of self-defense – he explained.
Mariusz Błaszczak also said that thanks to the purchase of equipment for the army, training and increasing the size of the army, Poland is safe. As he added, our country is also “strong in alliances”. The head of the Ministry of National Defense emphasized that the strengthening of Poland’s defense potential is evidenced, among others, by Abrams tanks, which will be supplied to the army.
– These tanks, in the hands of Polish soldiers of the 1st Warsaw Armored Brigade, will guard our security on NATO’s eastern flank, in eastern Poland. They, the Abrams tanks, will close the Brzeska Gate so that Putin’s resurgent empire does not dare to attack Poland, he noted.
“Train with the army” is training for civilians, during which you learn the basics of military training and acquire skills that may be useful in crisis situations. The training lasts eight hours and is conducted by military instructors.
