The smoke coming from a house alerted a resident of a neighborhood in Caracas. The woman, nervous, asked for help. He thought there might be people inside, but tragedy was inevitable.

The fire killed two victims, the children of Sacharit Escalona Díaz, 24 years old. The event took place on the morning of August 25, 2022 in the capital of Venezuela.

Investigations continued and it was on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, when the scientific police reported that the same mother of the babies had been arrested for the two deaths.

Woman went into labor in a maternity hospital and caused the death of her baby: she demanded a caesarean section, hit her stomach and threw herself on her stomach on the floor

The mother herself attacked her children

The woman is accused of taking advantage of her children’s sleeping that morning “to spray them with edible oil and set them on fire”.

This was also indicated by the Public Prosecution Service, an agency that announced on March 9 that the woman had been deprived of her freedom.

The mother was charged with the crimes of willful homicide qualified with treason and for useless motives in the person of her offspring

The investigation began as an alleged short circuit, but the police and fire department determined that “the fire was due to the intervention of a human factor”.

The prosecution pointed out that after he sprayed oil on his children and caused the fire, Sacharit “he placed two padlocks on the door of the house and immediately fled”.

One of the children had a motor disability

Commissioner Douglas Rico, National Chief of the CICPC (Scientific Police) lamented that, despite the best efforts of the community and firefighters, the little brothers died burned to death.

He indicated that the victims were a 5-year-old girl with a motor disability and a 1-year-old baby. The bodies were found by firefighters.

According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, “it was proven that the minors died of severe head trauma and burns.”

The mother was arrested on February 16 in the Los Sin Techos neighborhood of El Cementerio, in Caracas.

After hearing the information from the prosecutors, a court ordered the detention of the woman.

The news is lamented and rejected on social networks. One user, Mary Rojas, said, “God, how much evil and towards the children, who knows what life he has given them.”

Bertha Linares wondered: “My God, what is happening in our society, how is a mother going to kill her children.”
