ShrimmpApplePro: Apple will limit iPhone charging speed in case of third-party USB-C cables

A well-known insider under the nickname ShrimpApplePro told how Apple will interfere with non-genuine iPhone accessories. This is reported by the publication 9to5mac.

Media journalists referred to the conclusions of the author in Twitter, where the insider said that with the transition of Apple smartphones to USB-C, a series of certified cables will appear. According to ShrimpApplePro, data transfer and charging speeds for the base iPhone 15 and 15 Plus and non-genuine cables will remain the same, but maximum performance for the top-end iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max will only be achieved using proprietary USB-C accessories.

The author noted that when connecting a third-party USB-C wire, the data transfer rate will remain at the level of the USB 2.0 standard. When you connect a cable from the Made for iPhone series, the speed will be at the level of the Thunderbolt 3 standard – up to 40 gigabits per second.

“Potentially, this could mean that we will not be able to use all existing USB-C cables if we want to get the full capabilities of the two Pro models,” the journalists concluded from the insider’s message. The authors of the publication recalled that ShrimpApplePro may have reliable information, as it had previously accurately reported the presence of a Dynamic Island cutout in new iPhone models.

In mid-February, a Chinese insider reported that Apple could introduce restrictions on the USB-C connector on the iPhone that would interfere with the use of third-party accessories. Thus, Tim Cook’s company will make money on the production of original wires even after abandoning the proprietary Lightning connector in the iPhone.
