Several parts of Argentina are facing a blackout due to burning pastures due to the recorded high temperatures.
The outage occurred around 5 p.m. and affects the city of Buenos Aires and other provinces.
According to local media, the high temperature caused the electrical system to activate a protection that caused the power plants to shut down and prevent damage to the entire system. It was precisely the fire that broke out at a high-voltage line that caused the alarm.
Clarin explained that before 4pm local time, a 500 kV line was disconnected, cutting electricity supply by 5%. At the same time, the electric Atucha 1 was also released for safety. A few minutes later, there was another line interruption affecting Greater Buenos Aires and part of that province.
At about 4:30 p.m. the impact led to the Cuyo area and the supply was also cut off in Patagonia. Another line was released at 4:40 p.m., causing the central region and those in Santa Cruz province to collapse as well.
The portal pointed out that 40% of that country was without electricity.
“We clarify that the massive power outage that occurred this afternoon was not caused by the Atucha I Nuclear Power Plant, but by failures in the interconnected system. Due to this external inconvenience, Atucha I has been taken out of service and is in a safe shutdown,” said he against the Argentinian electricity company.
The blackout has affected the development of activities and various services, such as in the city of Buenos Aires, where the transport system has been affected by interruptions.
Service is expected to be fully restored in the next few hours.
