Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador expressed his rejection of the Peruvian government’s decision to withdraw its ambassador, describing it as authoritarian and repressive.
The Peruvian President Dinah Boluarte decided to retire Manuel Talavera over López Obrador’s interference in the country’s internal affairs by supporting Castillo.
According to the Mexican president, with the departure of Pedro Castillo, “democracy was flouted and a great injustice was committed by removing and imprisoning him and then establishing a de facto authoritarian, repressive government… And there are we disagree (…), unworthy, it is a great injustice, one cannot remain silent”.
Although the withdrawal was announced on Friday, it comes after Boluarte’s classification as false and alongside the announcement of support for Castillo.
After deploring the Boluarte government’s decision, the foreign ministry announced on Saturday that Mexico “will maintain the level of diplomatic and consular representation” in that country “to promote ties between the two countries” and to ensure grant to the Mexican community in Peru.
The Mexican president was visited by Castillo’s wife, who was able to flee in that country.
