Izvestia: FAS will check ads in Xiaomi smartphone applications due to fakes
The Association of Professional Users of Social Networks and Messengers (APPSIM) called for checking the legality of advertising in Xiaomi smartphone applications by sending a corresponding appeal to the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS). This is reported by Izvestia.
Social activists claim that smartphone users are systematically shown fake information, including discrediting the Russian authorities. So, for example, Xiaomi Ads shows an ad that announces the order of Russian President Vladimir Putin to pay large sums to each user. In addition, links to phishing sites appear in smartphone applications, the material says.
It is clarified that, most likely, for the first time, Xiaomi will get off with a warning, and in case of repeated violations, it can be fined. “Insignificant, by the standards of large private market players, fines have been established for violations in the field of advertising – from 100,000 to 500,000 rubles,” said Yury Fedyukin, managing partner of the law firm Enterprise Legal Solutions. However, criminal liability is not excluded, everything will depend on the qualifications of the advertisers’ actions.
Previously, the creators of Xiaomi 13 were accused of copying the design of the iPhone 14 Pro. It is noted that Xiaomi 13 has flat edges, buttons and colors, the same as the flagship of Apple.
