Although Switch is far from r COVID-19, however, the Japanese device has just managed to overcome another psychological barrier. According to Nintendo’s latest financial report, it hit the market in the last quarter of 2022 over 8 million copies of Switch consoles (in all versions).
That means sale Switch has already exceeded 122 million copies. Thus, the device overtook PlayStation 4 and Game Boy in the ranking of the most popular consoles in history. Switch came in third place and at the moment it is overtaken only by Nintendo DS and PlayStation 2.
Both consoles sold in total in over 150 million copies, and so Switch is a long way from them. Will the Nintendo console be able to cover this difference? The chances of that are getting smaller. Until recently, it seemed that the Japanese would release an improved version of the Switch Pro. Now, however, we know that will not be the case. This means that the Switch OLED will be the last iteration of this device.
Work is underway on a Switch successor
Currently, Nintendo is reportedly focused on working on a console that will be the successor to the Switch. It is worth noting that so far the next generations of Nintendo devices have been almost completely different from their predecessors. The exception was the Nintendo Wii U, which was built on the foundations of the Nintendo Wii. The problem is that it is the Wii U that is widely regarded today as one of the worst products of the Japanese company.
During the presentation of the financial report for the last quarter of 2022, Nintendo also boasted about the sales of games. It turns out that the most popular game on the Switch is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (52 million copies sold), the second place belongs to Animal Crossing: New Horizons (41.5 million), and the podium is closed by Super Smash Bros Ultimate (30.4 million).
Nintendo Direct 2023 on Thursday. Will we see a trailer for the new Zelda?
The Nintendo Direct conference will begin on Thursday at 23:00 Polish time. This will be the first event this year during which the Japanese will present information about the latest games coming to the Nintendo Switch console.
The highlight of the program will of course be Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Despite the fairly close release date, Tears of the Kingdom is still shrouded in mystery. Suffice it to say that Nintendo has only released one trailer for this sequel so far.
Besides, during the conference we should see such titles as: Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe, Pikmin 4 and Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon.
