9to5mac: Future iPhones May Have Reverse Charging
Apple engineers have resumed work on reverse charging in smartphones. This is reported by the publication 9to5mac.
According to a media source, Apple intends to refine the reverse charging technology so that this feature appears in future iPhones. According to the insider, this technology has been in active development since at least 2019, but due to technical difficulties, it has not yet appeared in the brand’s phones.
The dual charging feature allows you to use the telecoil located under the back panel to charge accessories such as AirPods. A stripped-down reverse charging feature appeared in the iPhone 12 series phones, when the devices could give energy to MagSafe proprietary power banks. It is reported that the function was almost ready for the release of the iPhone 14 line of devices, but the firm’s engineers encountered some problems.
One way or another, Apple has permission from the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to activate the dual charging feature in its devices from 2020. According to the source, this option may appear in the iPhone 15 series smartphones.
The fact that Apple patented a new reverse charging technology became known in October 2022. According to sources, the company has been working on this feature of smartphones since 2013.
