Linus Tech Tips: mining slightly affects the resource of video cards

Blogger Linus Tech Tips described the risk of buying a video card used for cryptocurrency mining. This is reported by TechSpot.

According to a popular YouTube blogger, he wanted to check if the performance of video cards decreases after using them for mining. To this end, the author purchased 19 used video cards that previously belonged to the miners.

The creator of the Linus Tech Tips channel conducted tests and concluded that the performance of the equipment as a whole was not affected – according to the expert, the mining procedure slightly affects the resource of video cards. However, in some cases – when using Gigabyte Eagle RTX 3060 OC and Sapphire Pulse RX 5700 XT video cards – the clock frequency of the devices was lower than that declared by the manufacturer.

It also turned out that the power of the Gigabyte Eagle OC 12GB video card has dropped significantly. At the same time, the remaining 18 devices continued to work normally. Linus Tech Tips concluded that gamers can buy used graphics cards previously used by miners. According to the expert, when used in gaming PCs, video cards wear out faster than when mining cryptocurrencies.

At the end of January, Reddit published the statistics of the most reliable brands of video cards, collected by the Swiss retailer Digitec. Dell, ASRock and Gainward were in the top three manufacturers of equipment that was least often returned to the store.
