Samsung says it’s premature to bring satellite to Galaxy smartphones
Samsung has explained why it decided not to add satellite connectivity to its new smartphones. This is reported by CNET.
According to journalists, there were rumors that Samsung, following Apple, will equip its flagships with satellite communications. However, the Galaxy S23 models did not receive the new option. In a conversation with CNET, Samsung Electronics President of Mobile Communications TM Ro said that the appearance of such an option on the devices of the Korean brand is premature.
“When there is the right time, infrastructure and technology, we will also actively consider implementing this feature,” Roh commented on the situation. According to the top manager, it turned out that the company sees the interest of consumers and considers satellite communications in smartphones to be promising.
At the same time, a Samsung spokesman said that he does not consider satellite communications an option that will allow consumers to feel calmer in emergency situations. TM Ro noted that instead, the company has improved various sensors inside smartphones and 5G performance.

Emergency mode appeared in Apple smartphones in 2022. It allows you to contact emergency services in the absence of cellular coverage. As of early 2023, the feature is live in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, and Ireland.
In December, 9to5mac speculated that Apple could leave the emergency satellite service free or charge up to ten dollars a month for it. Earlier, the company said that the option will be free for users for two years from the date of purchase of the smartphone.
