WSJ journalists told about cases of swallowing AirTag beacons by dogs
Apple’s smart AirTag trackers can be dangerous for pets. It is reported by The Wall Street Journal.
WSJ journalists talked about the increasing cases of swallowing AirTag beacons by pets. The authors drew attention to Reddit, where pet owners talked about how the smart tracker ended up inside their dogs and other animals.
So, the owner of two dogs, Colin Mortimer, said that he did not find AirTag on the collar of his dog. When the man turned on the lost mode, he was surprised to hear the sounds of AirTag coming from the abdomen of another dog – it turned out that the animal had swallowed the tracker. Some social media users said that they have repeatedly seen dogs in parks playing with AirTag or trying to chew on the device.
Journalists spoke with a veterinarian from Louisiana (USA), who said that animals may be interested in a gadget attached to their collar. According to the specialist, over the past year and a half, he has received at least six visitors whose dogs have swallowed AirTag.

The experts noted that although Apple does not provide for the use of AirTag to control pets, pet owners often attach tags to their collars. In a conversation with reporters, doctors noted that the tracker swallowed by the animal should be taken out as soon as possible, since when it is destroyed, harmful substances can be released into the pet’s body.
In December, it became known that the victims of espionage filed a lawsuit against Apple because of the AirTag beacon. Those who complained about the company demanded monetary compensation from the American corporation, the amount of which was not disclosed.
