These are the Government’s ’40 quick, cheap and healthy recipes’ to combat “overweight and inequality”

Is a cheap and healthy diet possible? Are there ‘menus’ that help fight overweight and equality? This is what the Ministry of Consumption tries to demonstrate with an initiative whose objective has been to compile up to 40 different recipes that meet the aforementioned characteristics; a recipe book that the portfolio directed by Alberto Garzón has created with the collaboration of the doctor in Pharmacy and Nutritionist Marián García (Boticaria García), with the chef and Michelin star Maria Jose San Roman and with the journalist Arantxa Chestnut.

“The WHO alerts us that since 1975 the obesity rate has tripled worldwide. How did we get to this situation? Mainly because two factors have been added: an increase in the consumption of high-calorie foods – richer in fats and sugars- and a decrease in physical activity “, the Ministry has denounced in the shared document, where it has stated that” some of the consequences “of the growth of these factors are”the increase in cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, musculoskeletal disorders and even some types of cancer. “

From Consumption they believe that, faced with this situation, you can’t “look away” and that “more support policies are necessary” in this regard. For this reason, with “the aim of bringing both accessible and nutritionally adequate resources to the population,” the Ministry has prepared this cookbook with 40 recipes that, as indicated, share “four key characteristics: they are fast, simple, cheap and healthy.” . As indicated in the document itself, they can be done in less than ten minutes, their cost ranges between one and two euros and they have been prepared following prestigious “nutritional guides”.

Thus, the document is divided into recipes for snacks and starters (kale chips, guacamole with carrot sticks, pickled carrots, potato chips with two sauces, fake sushi, watermelon and feta gazpacho or pumpkin cream and blue cheese, among many others), for complete dishes (to highlight, confetti beans, spicy chicken skewer, Harvard-style chicken poke, mini green pizza, chickpeas with ratatouille and rasp, mushroom and spinach omelette or brown rice pot) and for desserts (homemade yogurt, chocolate and banana ice cream, chia pudding with mango or banana and blueberry smoothie with oatmeal).

Throughout the cookbook, everything necessary for the preparation of the specific dish is explained. Suppose you decide to prepare lentils with rice and turmeric. The document includes how long it takes to make it (in this case, less than 15 minutes), how much it costs (less than 1 euros per serving), its characteristics (proteins, fats, hydrates …), its ingredients and its measurements. In addition, extra information is offered, such as various nutrition notes, debunking myths about some dishes or ingredients and an allergen table.
