IDC: Smartphone sales in China fall to record level in a decade

Smartphone sales in China hit an all-time low in 10 years. It is reported by Reuters.

Smartphone shipments in the region have plummeted by 13 percent in 2022, according to international research firm International Data Corporation (IDC). This figure was the lowest in the last decade. IDC experts noted that China is the largest smartphone market in the world.

From the material of the company it follows that during the specified period, 286 million devices were shipped to the Chinese market. The last time gadget shipments dropped below 300 million units was in 2013. According to experts, the production restrictions caused by outbreaks of COVID-19 had a decisive impact on the market.

“Strict pandemic control policies have led to historically high household savings as consumer spending has turned conservative,” IDC specialist Lucas Zhong commented on the situation.

At the end of the year, the leader of the Chinese smartphone market was Vivo, which received a share of 18.6 percent. Honor occupied the second position of the top with a share of 18.1 percent. Below are Oppo, Apple and Xiaomi, which received a share of 16.8, 16.8 and 13.7 percent, respectively.

Earlier, IDC experts said that in 2022, shipments of smartphones in the world fell to the lowest level in the last 10 years. The total volume of devices shipped to the market decreased by 11.3 percent in annual terms.
