Apple announces new generation of HomePod smart speaker with improved sound
Apple has unveiled the second generation of the HomePod smart speaker. This was reported on the corporation’s website.
Visually, the new version of the device does not differ from the first generation speaker. It has a cylindrical shape, a fabric case, a backlit touch surface for controlling device functions. HomePod 2 received one woofer and five tweeters.
The announced device is equipped with an S7 chip, the column supports the voice assistant Siri. The company said that the smart device has a more improved sound than the original speaker: “HomePod provides incredible sound quality with rich deep bass and amazing high frequencies.”
The device also supports the Matter standard for connecting to smart home devices. The developers specified that the speaker has a sound recognition function – so it can “hear” a doorbell or a fire alarm and notify the user about it. The cost of the second generation HomePod will be $ 299 or about 20 thousand rubles. Sales will start on February 3rd.
The first generation of the HomePod was announced in June 2017. The device went on sale in a number of countries in January 2018 for $349.
