Insider: Google has begun work on a smart tracker that competes with Apple AirtTag

Google will release a smart beacon that will compete with Apple’s AirTag smart tag. This is reported by the publication Android Authority.

The journalists of the portal referred to report well-known insider Cuba Wojciechowski. According to the expert, Google has begun work on a smart tracker – a device for finding lost items. The device can be attached to keys, luggage and other personal items in order to avoid their loss.

The device will work on the basis of the energy-efficient Bluetooth LE protocol, support for UWB technology is expected. Previously, UWB appeared in the brand’s smartphones, starting with the Pixel 6 line. According to Wojciechowski, the device appears in the report under the code name Grog, which, apparently, is a reference to the character of the same name from the series The Mandalorian. “It’s a cute name because Grog is essentially a small accessory for the protagonist of the Mandalorian series,” the authors explained the name of the gadget.

The insider did not specify when Google will introduce a smart tag and how much it will cost the new device. According to journalists, the company may announce a smart device at the May Google I / O conference.

In the summer of 2022, SlashGear journalists listed the most failed Apple products. These included the HomePod smart speaker, AirTag tag, AirPods headphones.
