Apple, Amazon, Tesla, Meta or Alphabet. These are just a few of the biggest tech companies that lost a huge chunk of market capitalization last year. The value of Elon Musk’s company has decreased by 70% in the last 12 months.
Tech giants in trouble. The valuation falls head over heels
Apple and Amazon are (in absolute terms) biggest losers in all of 2022 year. The iPhone maker lost $846.34 billion in value over the period, which, according to the station, is comparable to the value of eight companies such as Intel. And this despite the fact that the company did not disappoint investors last year and avoided a decline in profits. The capitalization of the shipping giant from Seattle evaporated slightly less, i.e. USD 834.06 billion. That’s still ten times more than PayPal, for example.
In relative terms, Apple declined by 29.28 percent and Amazon by 49.18 percent. But it’s not just these two companies that have lost their value particularly sharply in recent months. Tesla (as much as 70.34 percent), Meta (owner of Facebook, Instagram, etc.) – 62.15 percent, Alphabet (owner of Google) – 38.57 percent, also recorded huge declines on the stock exchange over the last year. or Microsoft – 29.71 percent. Even the Chinese conglomerate Tencent loses (a decrease of 19.4 percent). These numbers – as indicated by analysts – are simply staggering:
Big tech companies lost the most on the stock exchange in the last quarter of 2022, although in the case of Apple the worst periods are April and May, August and September.
It is also worth noting that Apple – currently the highest-valued company in the world of new technologies – this week fell out of the elite club of companies worth more than $ 2 trillion. Thus, there is no longer a single technology company whose capitalization would exceed USD 2 trillion for a long time.
