We choose the best games of 2022. Elden Ring? High. But there could only be one winner [TOPtech]

It’s been a very interesting year in the gaming world. A new portable console, the Steam Deck, has debuted on the market, and Microsoft has put almost $70 billion on the table to take over Activision Blizzard and take over such iconic series as Diablo or Call of Duty. On the last straight, however, the Redmond company’s plans may be thwarted by the Federal Trade Commission.

We have also witnessed many successful launches in the last 12 months. To sum it all up nicely, I chose five games that impressed me the most last year.

5. Pentiment (PC, XSX, XONE)

Pentiment is a fairly classic point-click adventure game that takes us to 16th-century Germany, torn by social and religious conflicts, and the Bavarian town of Tassing. We play the role of Andreas Maler, an artist-journey and adventurer. Our hero accidentally gets involved in a great criminal intrigue, in which a certain abbey plays a central role.

If you liked The Name of the Rose, then Pentiment is sure to please you. The game impresses not only with its excellent storyline, but also with extraordinary graphics inspired by medieval woodcuts. Studio Obsidian has returned with a real gem.

4. Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope (Switch)

As the father of a five-year-old, I’ve spent a lot of time with the Nintendo Switch console in recent months. And although this platform did not have a hit last year like the last Zelda, one game turned out to be an absolute bull’s-eye.

We are talking about Mario & Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, a production with a mustachioed plumber in the lead role, which – interestingly – is not Nintendo at all, but Ubisoft. This time, Mario and his friends face a mysterious malevolent force called Cursa, who intends to devour the titular “Sparks” in order to gain unimaginable power and take over the galaxy.

The second installment of the tactical RPG from 2017 is better than its predecessor in every respect. Both the graphics, the combat system and key mechanics have been improved.

3. Immortality (PC, XSX)

Immortality is the biggest positive surprise of last year. Before the premiere, I had heard little about this game and went into it without much expectations. Meanwhile, the narrative adventure by Sam Barlow, known from Telling Lies, pulled me in completely.

The idea of the game itself is simple. Second by second and frame by frame, we analyze fragments of three “lost” films starring a mysterious actress – Marissa Marcel. Boredom? Nothing could be more wrong.

Discovering the web of connections between seemingly random recordings provides incredible fun, and the dark intrigue unfolding before us made my heart beat faster at least several times.

2. Elden Ring (PC, PS4, XONE, PS5, XSX)

Personally, I’m not a big fan of From Software’s games. This is largely due to the fact that I deal with hellishly difficult soulsborns quite poorly. Anyway, not only me. But to the Emperor is to be given the Imperial, and the Elden Ring is without a doubt the new Emperor of the genre.

The game that the Japanese created together with George RR Martin, the author of the “A Song of Ice and Fire” saga, is a monumental work – however pompous it may sound. challenging yet rewarding combat, this game just needs to be given a chance!

1. God of War: Ragnarok (PS4, PS5)

Bigger, more interesting, more beautiful and much more spectacular – this is how you can briefly describe the new installment of God Of War. And yet Ragnarok is not the successor of some mediocre, but an outstanding production that has won dozens of industry awards.

In Ragnarok, everything is at the highest level – from the graphics, through the story, the majestic soundtrack, to spectacular boss fights, which are numerous here.

Ragnarok is filled to the brim with interesting content, and during the 40-50 hours spent with this title, you will never get bored. The artists at Santa Monica Studio have reached the heights of their skills, resulting in not only the best game of the year, but also one of the most outstanding virtual adventures of the last decade.
