It was alleged that they could act as Chinese spy tools and collect personal information about US citizens. Ultimately, however, this decision was withdrawn.

In the face of the new privacy policy, doubts about the security of the application will arise again. Michaela Beale, professor of civil law at the University of London, told The Guardian that data transfers should be “checked for security”, but at the same time reassured that “the Chinese government is currently not focused on spying on TikTok user data.” He explained that he believed they had other ways to obtain private information, which could be little consolation.
