Named the role of smartphones in the course of hostilities

The military widely use smartphones to achieve goals, said military historian, director of the Museum of Air Defense Forces (Air Defense) Yuri Knutov. In a conversation with Lenta.ru, he told how “smart” gadgets can be useful to the military on the battlefield and explained what threats their use entails.

“There are many programs, for example, special shooting tables in the form of books used by artillery. They are embedded in the programs of a smartphone or tablet. This program does all the calculations automatically. Literally in a second, you can determine the coordinates of the target and the aiming data that needs to be entered into the artillery gun, ”the specialist noted.

Knutov emphasized that smartphones can be a useful auxiliary means of achieving military goals, noting also the possibility of using special communication channels.

However, the expert drew attention to the fact that smartphones on the battlefield can also pose a threat to the military.

“Smartphones can determine the location of military personnel. If one smartphone appears, then the question arises to whom it belongs. If it is read that there is a large group of telephones in the area, even if they are turned off, then we can assume that these are the military and strike,” Knutov explained.

Earlier it became known that the Russian Armed Forces learned to determine the positions of Ukrainian artillery in the NVO zone using smartphones. It was clarified that special software was developed for smartphones, which helped determine the coordinates of the artillery of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“Four sound meters with smartphones (tablets) are located at a distance of three to six kilometers from the LBS (line of contact. — “Lenta.ru”) and with the help of such software determine the time of detection of the sound of a shot in both automatic and manual modes, ”the method of using such software is explained in the publication.
