On Wednesday afternoon, someone took complete control of the TVP Sport.pl channel on YouTube. Cybercriminals changed its name, and a video broadcast encouraging people to buy cryptocurrencies appeared in place of the removed videos.
This broadcast was promoted with the image of an American billionaire Elon Musk, and viewers were sent to a website that encouraged them to make a transfer in the digital currency Bitcoin.
As explained by Niebezpiecznik.pl, people in return these were to receive a multiple from Elon Musk amount paid. All of this is of course a scam to extort money.
Late in the evening, the TVP Sport channel was completely removed from YouTube – probably by the administration of the site. So far, it is not known when the channel will reappear on the network and whether all deleted video materials will be recovered.
Polish Television nhas officially addressed the matter. We contacted the TVP spokesperson for a comment. The text will be updated as soon as we receive a response.

As explained by Niebezpiecznik.pl, the TVP Sport channel is to be taken over could have happened in several ways. First, its administrators may have forgotten about enabling two-step account verification. In such a situation, you only need to know the password to log in, and this could simply have been leaked.
The second way is phishingo. In this case, even enabled two-step verification will not protect us from losing the account, because the hacker can extort the authorization code needed to log in.
A third way of attack could be infecting your computer with phishing software. Perhaps one of the TVP employees received an e-mail from an attachment that “pretended” PDF file was actually an EXE file. Once opened, it stole session cookies for YouTube, which allowed you to log in to the account of the channel’s administrator.
