The technological predictions of 2023 that can change our lives

With various global crises occupying our daily lives, it is important to see where it is possible to take advantage of technology to solve certain daily problems. Today, there is greater access to data from portable devices and information in general.

According to Amazon CTO Werner Vogels, the next wave of innovations will be focused on solutions to reforest the planet, stay youthful, and reimagine the supply chain from warehouse to delivery. Vogels has laid out his technological predictions for the new year.

Prediction 1: Cloud technologies will redefine sports as we know it

Sports are part of the human fabric. They transcend time, cultures and physical borders. In the coming years, all facets of all sports will undergo a digital transformation, and this will happen at all levels of play, from youth basketball to professional cricket.

Companies like Veo are making use of cloud technologies like machine learning, computer vision, and stream processing to bridge the digital divide between hobbyists and professionals. Veo has not only created a broadcast-like experience for viewers but has also built a deep neural network that allows it to automatically create highlights from video streams. This allows players, coaches, and scouts to easily find key plays, improve tactics, and share them in ways that simply weren’t possible before.

Prediction 2: Simulations will reinvent the way we experience

Simulations are used to build better race cars, predict the weather, and model the stock market. While the problems that simulations can solve are significant, the difficulty of building and running simulations is a barrier to everyday use cases.

Businesses are constrained by the need for high-powered hardware and skilled labor. Take for example a fluid dynamics simulation for an airplane wing or race car, where it can take up to 150TB of data just to simulate one second of a real world scenario.

However, this is rapidly changing with technologies like the recently released AWS SimSpace Weaver, the first of many simulation technologies that will pave the way for a future where almost anything in our world can and eventually will be simulated. Simulations will help us make better decisions about the roads we build, the ways we organize our warehouses, and the ways we respond to disasters.

Prediction 3: The next supply chain transformation

Vogels also talks about the fragility of the global supply chain. This is due to late deliveries, unavailable products, empty shelves. While Amazon has honed its supply chains with innovations like digital freight matching and drop-off stations, many businesses continue to struggle with logistics challenges. This is about to change.

Prediction 4: Silicon will gain more ground

Custom silicon and specialized hardware have been rapidly gaining ground in the consumer technology industry. Custom silicon refers to a SoC, or processor, designed by a device manufacturer. Everything from our laptops to our cell phones to our wearable devices is experiencing significant performance gains with custom silicon fabrication and integration.

Manufacturing your own chips is more cost-effective in large quantities and allows the processor to run more efficiently

On the other hand, the telecommunications equipment company, Cisco, has indicated that one of the trends in digital transformation will be that it is led by connectivity and intelligent networks.

Intelligent connectivity and networks are at the center of everything. It’s not just about optimizing resources – they can potentially help organizations anticipate and respond to global trade issues, workforce changes, and other unexpected events. The coming year, 2023, will be a tipping point in the deployment of revolutionary networking and connectivity solutions on which future engineering marvels will be built. (YO)
