Until now, the Russians could not download the installation tool or the image of Windows operating systems from the Microsoft website. With such an attempt, devices logging in from Russia threw an error. But now that was about to change.
Russians can download Windows from Microsoft’s website again
According to Onet journalist Marcin WyrwaĆ, referring to United24 Media reports (a website run by the Ukrainian Ministry of Digitization), Russians can again use the Windows download option. Microsoft’s operating system download page is to be available again for users with a Russian IP address. There were also similar reports.
Previously, the Russians could not download the installer or image of Windows 10 and 11, which would allow the installation of the OS on the computer. Moreover, users from Russia were also blocked from accessing Windows updates from Windows Update. The only option was to use a VPN tool that allows you to “impersonate” a location in another country.
United24 Media did not give the reason why access to Windows was unblocked for the Russians. Microsoft itself has not commented on this either.
In June, as part of the sanctions against Russia, Microsoft (like many other technology companies) limited its activities in the country of the aggressor to a minimum. The US company suspended selling its new products on that market. Later, the Russians unexpectedly – probably for the same reason – lost access to sites that allow you to install Windows systems.
