TrendForce: Foxconn will no longer be the only manufacturer of expensive iPhones
Apple will move part of the production of premium iPhones from China to Vietnam. This is reported in the current TrendForce report.
Experts found that the forecast for the supply of smartphones of the iPhone 14 series in 2022 was reduced to 78.1 million devices due to quarantine in China. Meanwhile, Apple decided to diversify the production of Pro models, depriving Foxconn of its status as the sole manufacturer of gadgets. As TrendForce has learned, the corporation will transfer part of the orders for the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max to Luxshare.
Analysts noted that Luxshare has an iPhone accessory manufacturing plant in Vietnam and a smartphone production line in China. To reduce dependence on Chinese production, Apple will have to stop relying on local partners and consider factories in other Asian countries.
To ensure uninterrupted supply of premium smartphones to the North American market, Apple needs to concentrate about 30-35 percent of its capacity outside of China, experts say.
In mid-December, SCMP sources said Apple’s Chinese partners would help the company move out of China. Thus, one of the main partners of the American company, Foxconn, invested $500 million in the construction of a plant in India.
